The Story of Balmain
Pierre Balmain opened his couture house in Paris in 1945, just as the city was returning to fashion after the war. His elegant, structured silhouettes and meticulous craftsmanship quickly drew an international clientele, and Balmain became one of the defining names of postwar French couture.
In 2011, a 25-year-old Olivier Rousteing was named creative director and reinvented the house for a new generation. Over 14 years he brought couture craft together with pop-culture energy, dressing music and entertainment stars and turning the Balmain monogram, embellished jackets and biker denim into luxury streetwear staples. Rousteing stepped down in late 2025, and the house named Antonin Tron as its new creative director, opening a fresh chapter for the label.
